Some people have a problematic skin by birth and some people acquire certain skin problems from their parents. Certain skin problems are also caused by deficiencies and lack of proper nutrition. Certain problems are caused by cosmetics and skin care products, which are part of most people's daily grooming habits. During a day an average adult uses seven different skin care products each day, which include fragrances, astringents, moisturizers, sunscreens, skin cleansers, hair care items, deodorants/ antiperspirants, colored cosmetics, hair cosmetics, and nail cosmetics. Most dermatologists feel a large percentage of problems arise due to allergies to the chemicals in these products. Skin problems arise either with the first few applications, or after years of use. If an allergy is immediate, most people know which product is causing the problem but if its something that shows up after years of use, its best to consult a dermatologist to conclude the root cause.

Problem skin care is not a big issue at all, if you know what's causing the problem. It also important to remember the risk of reactions to skin care products depends on the condition of your skin. Uninjured skin reacts less to most substances found in cosmetics and skin care products than an over dry or injured skin, that is more susceptible to skin allergies. Reactions may occur in the form of burning, stinging, itching, and redness, after the use of a product. Bath soaps, detergents, antiperspirants, eye cosmetics, moisturizers, permanent hair-waving solutions, face washes and shampoos are the most common skin irritants. Another skin problem may be allergic contact dermatitis, which is caused because of a specific ingredient or ingredients in a product. Symptoms include redness, swelling, itching, and fluid-filled blisters. Reaction may occur whenever they are exposed to the ingredient, or later.

Fungal infections and eczema are some of the common skin problems. You may treat these with certain drugs commonly available over the counter which are hypoallergenic and safe to use or drugs prescribed by your doctor. Cosmetics and skin care products are indispensable for personal grooming and daily hygiene. Some of the minor skin problems develop from the use of these products. If a problem is suspected, your dermatologist may suggest patch testing to help determine if an allergy to ingredients in these products exists. Your dermatologist can also answer your questions and provide additional information on how to use cosmetics and skin care products safely and some problem skin care tips too.
